Say Yes to the Dress
That moment . . . in the show. . . when the bride says, “Yes!” to just the right wedding dress for her special day! I love it! Over the years that show (Say Yes to the Dress) captivated my daughter’s and my hearts and was fun to watch (and dream about) together.
My new daughter-in-law ended up saying “Yes!” to a couple of dresses as her 2020 wedding day plans shifted along with state and local guidelines due to Covid-19. But the dress she ended up with for their very special October 31st wedding ceremony was just perfect.
The Bible has beautiful imagery of a bride (and bridegroom) clothing themselves for that special day. Isaiah 61:10 tells us that God is the one who clothes us ‘with the garments of salvation, covering us with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.’
And in Matthew 22: 1-14 Jesus tells the Parable of the Wedding Feast, at which guests are provided appropriate clothes for the wedding banquet. Those ‘clothes’ are the righteousness of Jesus, earned for us on the cross where He died, paying the price for the sins of the world. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Because of Jesus, we can put off our old self, which belongs to our former (sinful) manner of life. . . and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24)
God wants us to say “Yes!” to the dress He offers - that covering of righteousness that removes our sins and makes us pure (as white as snow) in God’s eyes. By receiving that precious wedding garment and putting it on, we are qualified to enter into that eternal celebration.
