Heavenly Transformation
Transformer toys were a favorite with my two boys as they were growing up. Transformers are human-like robots that have the unique ability to turn into vehicles or beasts! How cool is that?!
Well, our middle son’s fascination with transforming didn’t diminish as he grew up, and especially after he met his future bride. At their October 31st wedding they had all of us wedding guests transform from our wedding best into costumes for the reception afterward!
I love that they chose October 31 for their wedding day, because for us Christians that date is also ‘All Hallows Eve’ or the eve of All Saints Day. On All Saints Day many Christians remember believers who are now with Jesus, enjoying their final, full, glorious transformation in heaven. That transformation began when they first believed in Jesus as their Savior and continued throughout their lives of faith on earth. Now, in heaven, they are fully transformed!
In Matthew it says that the rewards for those who believe in Jesus and especially for those who suffer here on earth are great in heaven. And in Revelation 7 the Bible tells us that those who have gone on to heaven are with God now and will never be sad again. What a wonderful transformation we can look forward to!
But for those of us still living here on earth, our final transformation is yet to come. With God’s help we are growing to be more and more like Jesus. (2 Corinthians 3:18) God uses all kinds of opportunities in our lives to help us grow in our faith and become more and more like Jesus. He uses our marriages to teach us humility, patience, forgiveness and unconditional love, continuing to transform us to be more like him. He uses our families, our jobs, our neighbors and all sorts of circumstances to teach us what it is like to love him wholeheartedly and love each other as Jesus loves us.
Because of Jesus’ great love for us in dying on a cross to pay for the sins of the world and rising again to conquer death, we who believe in Him can look forward to the best transformation ever. One day, we will see Him face to face, in our glorious, fully-transformed heavenly bodies.
