Christian Wives’ Club
In my Bible is a section marked “Christian Wives Club”. And it comes with a list! Oh, how I love lists! Last year, on this date, I marked Ephesians 5:15-21 in my Bible and titled it “The Christian Wives Club”.
I know I did this exactly one year ago because I’ve been using a little 365-day inspiration book, Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, for many years now for my morning devotions. Each day is dated with the month and day and August 10 is well marked. On this day, Sarah highlights what God’s Word says about finding peace, energy, focus and purpose in our daily routine. She writes that energy and time are precious, limited entities. She shares this Scripture passage from Ephesians to help us ‘use them wisely, focusing on what’s important’.
One of the purposes of God’s Word is to direct our paths and curb our behavior. So, this ‘oldest child’ (ordered, accomplishment-gratified and thriving on checking things off my list) made a list! From Paul’s letter to the Ephesians I gleaned the following list and felt it a good one for Christian wives seeking the center of God’s will.
To Do:
Make the best use of my time.
Do not get drunk with wine.
Address one another with psalms. . . making melody to the Lord with my heart.
Give thanks to God.
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
This list from Ephesians 5 may have been written in reference to other relationships in the church at Ephesus, but my heart was touched by how it related to my marriage relationship. God’s Word is living and active that way. When I daily check these items off my list, I have peace, greater energy and focus and my purpose is clearer. And best of all, my marriage is blessed!
