Messages
Each morning my doggies, Dottie & Boots, ‘check their messages’ (as my friend Shauna says.) As we walk along, they pause regularly from ‘doing their business’ to sniff and respond to messages left by other dogs who have also walked that way. These messages keep them connected with dogs they rarely see. But that connection is real, and they get so excited and seem so fulfilled after our excursions.
I ‘check my messages’ too, though not in THAT way. I check my iPhone, my email, my social media sites, and shared photos for ‘messages’ from others or just notification that they have ‘noticed.’ But I’ve learned that the first messages of the day that I SHOULD be checking are those from the Lord.
I’ve learned that those other messages (that so easily push to the top of my list) can most often wait. They actually don’t bring the fulfillment that I think they will. But, if I take a few moments to rest from the ‘business’ of the day and spend that time reading my Bible, working on the current Bible study I’m doing and praying, those other messages take on their true importance. Matthew 6:33 says, ‘seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these other things will be added to you.’ Prioritizing my time with the Lord by ‘checking the messages’ He has for me in His Word and through prayer connects me to Him and is very fulfilling. His messages direct my response to all the other messages, and He is glorified! View an object lesson about keeping Christ first in Videos 4 Kids, Priorities.
